your mother tells you it's a love story, and your father's too lovedrunk to argue otherwise ( even if his moony smile doesn't quite reach his eyes ).she tells, night after night as she combs the sea out of your hair, that your father was an explorer; determined to find proof of creatures lurking below the waves, and in endeavours, met his future wife. your mother tells you how easy it was, to shrug off the seal fur that kept her warm and strong in the waters and to enter his open arms.says it was even easier to sing your song until he could no longer think of a rational excuse to not help her escape.your mother tells you that you're awfully lucky; how your father only managed to indulge in his passion because of the riches his family had tucked safely away, that thanks to her song she managed to convince him to marry her ( to keep her safe from her selkie husband ), but only if she promised to run away with him from his family and their too greedy hands.they settle on California, and soon you are born.the towns people calls your mother a seawitch, but she pays them no mind, instead settling a gentle hand on their shoulder and instructing them to walk off the pier; they seldom return.the sea is in your blood.
